3 Opportunities To Influence

We’ve been unpacking the Biblical leadership of Moses all week:

First, we looked at The Life of Moses: An Overview By Stephen, then we spent some time Analysing the Analytical Mind of Moses, then we took A Melancholy Moment with Moses.

Today, we wrap up our focus on Moses.

Moses was just like you and me. Regardless of background or character, he had to learn to follow God’s leading and overcome challenges just like us.

I think there’s a few lessons to be pulled from Moses’ life and leadership.

3 Opportunities To Influence

More specifically than lessons, I believe Moses shows us 3 important opportunities as leaders. If we can grasp these 3 qualities, we will be able to influence the world in an incredible way.

1. Moses had to learn patience

…so do we. Instead of taking matters into our own hands, we should stop and think through the outcome of our words, actions and behaviours.

2. Moses had to learn trust

…and so do we. Instead of sticking to what’s comfortable, we need to trust in God’s call to influence and to lead wholeheartedly, even when it costs us something or everything.

3. Moses had to learn to obtain counsel

…and so do we. Instead of depending on our own education or experience, we should seek God’s counsel and the counsel of the godly people around us.

Moses and God were friends.

The above points are important. But Exodus 33 shows us the real secret to being a great leader and having positive influence on the world.

“Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent. The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” (33:7-11)

These words highlight that Moses’ influence and leadership was really built on a close relationship with the Lord.

May you experience the same.

CAN I GET YOUR FEEDBACK?

Moses had to learn (1) patience, (2) trust and (3) to obtain counsel. Which of these 3 opportunities to influence is God calling you to focus on this week?
