How To Fight Injustice and Make a Difference

Consider who has the ultimate authority.

Do you ever see or hear something that makes you angry, and you feel like fighting? Not so much to fight for the sake of fighting, to get aggression out. I’m talking about something deeper.

I’m talking about fighting for someone who has been cheated in life or put down by a greater authority. Perhaps, fighting for some cause or speaking out about something that needs to be said when no one else is saying it.

If that’s you, I get it.

Full confession, my back gets up pretty easily, and I quickly feel justified to defend my point of view. I’ve always struggled with this urge to ‘put people in their place’ so to speak. If I had the chance, I’m sure I’d have plenty to say to the President of the United States or the Prime Minister of Canada.

On second thought, what good would it do me? If I’m being honest with myself, it’s more about my pride than the topic or ideal I’m fighting for. Justice, like everything else in our lives, is cared for with purpose by our Creator.

We may not understand the plan, but He does.

If God felt that a certain ruler needed persuading, He could change the mind of that ruler in a heartbeat. King Solomon was the wisest, and one of the most powerful rulers that ever lived, and he states this concept plainly.

Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the LORD that one gets justice.

Proverbs 29:26

The question is, “Do I have the faith to believe that?”

I have to reflect a little deeper on my motives, potential outcomes, and what matters. That often leads me to ask, “What would Jesus want me to focus on right now?

Who will we have an audience with today?

We might get the opportunity to meet with a ruler or authority of some country, state, province, territory, city or town. Perhaps, we’ll meet with an important business, organization or church leader? If that happens, how will we act? What will we say?

Will our words and actions portray faith? Will our words and actions portray the belief held in the above proverbial wisdom? Or will we let our pride overtake our faith?

Let’s remember who’s really in charge.

Let’s remember that within all these structures of life, that ruler or leader only has authority because God has appointed him or her, and allowed them to rule for this time. Jesus is our true King and Supreme Ruler.

With that in mind, let’s make a commitment to seek God’s wisdom first before we get angry and fight for our little piece of justice.
