HOW MEMORIZING A SINGLE VERSE CAN HAVE A LIFE-LONG IMPACT

Our faith is constantly tested.

Walking through this world is tough. Though we have an amazing hope for our eternity through Christ, this earthly life does not get any easier. It’s typically more difficult for those who choose to follow Jesus.

During the conversion experience, or soon after putting our trust in Christ, many connect with a particular passage or verse. Some refer to it as their life verse, because it was so pivotal in God’s plan for their salvation.  This verse is typically the first to be memorized and brought to mind in times of trouble.

For me, it was Philippians 1:6.

It has guided me through many trials and temptations. It has become a pointer to look back on for assurance that God did something amazing in my life and will continue to work through me.

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (1:6)

Whenever I feel like I can’t move forward, this verse tells me I can. I must be “confident” because Christ “began a good work” in me, and He “will carry it on to completion”.

Memorizing this single verse has made a huge impact on my life. Not to mention the numerous other verses that are so often brought to mind to assist me in a variety of circumstances.

What’s your verse?

Which passage has been significant in your life? Which verse has made the greatest impact?

This morning, consider what God has done for you through that verse. Perhaps, spend some time in prayerful thanksgiving? May I also suggest, as God brings thoughts to your mind, bullet point each situation in your journal or notes app.

Following your time of prayer, you will have a detailed account of how memorizing a single verse can have a lasting impact on your life.
