HOW THE BIBLE IMPACTS LIFE AND ETERNITY

The Bible & The Christian Life.

We live in a world of “I think…” and “I feel…” when it comes to eternity. Western culture promotes this idea that, “we’re all on different roads that lead to the same place” and that, “we’ll all make it in the end.

This inclusivity mindset works as long as we don’t go looking for absolute truth. But every once in a while, our lives face crisis, throwing us into a pursuit for more meaning. The search for truth begins.

Absolute truth can be found in one place, the Bible. It offers a very exclusive plan, but with an absolute inclusivity to all people, broken down in 2 keys truths:

1. The Bible Holds One Central Message

The Bible consistently points to Jesus. In 2 Timothy 3, Paul outlines the process of learning Scripture and belief in Jesus:

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Tim. 3:14-15)

Timothy learned about Jesus Christ in his childhood, through the “sacred writings”. The Law and Prophets of the Old Testaments pointed him to Jesus. But who taught him?

In 2 Timothy 1:5, we read that Timothy’s grandmother, Lois and his mother, Eunice impressed upon him the truth of Scripture. This definitely brings some conviction to the parent and grandparent, that we must provide teaching and availability to the Word.

The Bible continues to point people to Jesus.

Many Jews, Muslims, Hindus and people of other faiths have studied the “sacred writings” and soon found the person and power of Jesus Christ. What they initial believe to be a prophet or teacher, becomes who He claims He is; the Saviour of humanity,

2. The Bible Holds One Guiding Purpose

The Bible offers the answers to every question. Let’s continue Paul’s instruction to his pastoral apprentice Timothy.

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Scripture should hold authority in our lives because Scripture is God-Breathed. It is inspired by God and guides us, as outlined by Paul:

  • Our Teaching (Through the Bible we learn God’s truth!)
  • Our Reproof (The Bible tells is where we have deviated from the path!)
  • Our Correction (The Bible tells us how to get back on the path!)
  • Our Training In Righteousness (The Bible tells us how to live a holy life!)

The Bible continues to offer us answers.

Eventually, we become complete and equipped, leading to good works. But the good works aren’t the end of the journey. It all comes back to Jesus! One guiding purpose bringing us back to the one central message.

The Gospel. The cyclical dynamic of disciples, making disciples.
