HOW TO REMEMBER THE FAITHFULNESS GOD HAS SHOWN

What happened this past year?

Is there anything worth remembering? Are there any highlights worth talking about?

Each day something reminds us of a past event in our lives. It may be an event that happened earlier in the week, or as far back as our childhood.

For the Believer, good memories are often connected to God’s faithfulness to us. Times where God has carried us through a trial or difficult circumstance.

  • Shouldn’t we do something to assist these memories?
  • Do something to help us remember the past?
  • Do something to pass them down to our children?

How can we remind ourselves of these events?

In the Bible, we read about Joshua, who was a courageous man, full of faith. He seemed to have no question as to whether or not God would fulfil His promises. By God’s hand, He was carried through many trials, giving the Nation of Israel some very memorable moments.

In Joshua 3, we read about God miraculously leading the Nation of Israel through the Jordan River. In Joshua 4, we hear God’s instructions for Joshua:

…take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan…put them down at the place where you stay tonight.” (Josh. 4:2b-3)

These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” (Josh. 4:7b)

God may not have stopped a raging river for you.

However, surely He has brought you through some trial or difficulty this past year.

  • How will you remember that moment?
  • What will serve as a memorial for that time in your life?
  • Will it be in a photo, a journal entry, a blog post?

How will you look back at God’s faithfulness and share it with your next generation?

Take some time this morning.

Read through Joshua 3 and 4. Trust me, it’s an exciting account that will start the day off with some encouragement. Then, spend some time thinking about this past year.

  • What amazing trial has God helped you overcome?
  • What difficulty has God given you the strength to endure?

Prayerfully reflect on that moment, thanking God for His faithfulness. And after that, God may just encourage you to create a memorial of sorts, highlighting specific items that will help you remember and share your story.
