How To Use Social Media To Proclaim Our God Moments

Social media is impacting our world.

There is no doubt that social media has changed the world we live in. The fact that I’m blogging about this, soon to be sent out to the masses instead of writing a letter to a friend, kind of proves my point.

When I’m writing, I always need to keep in mind that anyone could read this post after I’ve published it. Depending on our settings, our social networks can become a public discussion in a hurry. Even if we limit our content to the people we know, some of us know a lot of people. It can still get out there.

What’s my point?

Why am I focusing on social media? Believe it or not, my thoughts stemmed from reading a passage from 1 Chronicles 16.

Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.  Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.” (1 Ch. 16:8-9)

In our world today, social networks give us fresh new ways to “proclaim his name” and “tell of all his wonderful acts.” And yet, much like our face-to-face communication, we often forget to tell of the numerous blessings and lessons that we receive from the Lord each and every day.

More often, we spend time posting about the cute things our children or pets do, or the adventures we’ve taken, or maybe even our dinner plate…than what God is doing and has done for us. Sounds a bit sad, doesn’t it?

What’s your focus?

Don’t get me wrong, our families are important. (Grandparents love the grandchild posts!) And the adventures we have and the food we eat are fun blessings that God has bestowed upon us as common grace.

That being said, if we’re being honest with ourselves, we don’t highlight the miraculous or magnificent, or the prayers that are answered enough. We’ll tell our spouse or maybe a couple of close friends, but that’s usually it. Why do we keep it to ourselves? What are we afraid of? Why do we shy away from proclaiming the greatest of God in our lives?

What’s your next post?

God is working in our world constantly, showing up in so many unique ways. What if we spent just a bit of time each week posting a proclamation about the numerous God moments in our lives?

How would our social feeds change if we highlighted Him instead of ourselves? What conversations might be sparked? Who else might reciprocate with a God moment post of their own?

Thank You Jeremy! Whether or not we acknowledge it, each of us are quilty as charged. Once a month I take time to reflect on the Blessings I have witnessed through my work and share them with supporters of Love INC. How selfish is that? I should be sharing them on a daily basis, on Facebook, our webpage and any other way possible. Thanks for the reminder! Blessings to you and your family.

  2. Thanks for your comment Leslie. Sometimes, when I write about a topic like this one, I wonder if it sounds judgemental. I try to keep a lot more of ‘we’ than ‘you’, but I never really know if it’s communicated well enough. I was greatly encouraged by your comment, and also encouraged that Love INC will be getting some personal touches to their online platforms!
