As many of you already know, I recently moved from writing a Bible-only based blog to this blog.
My previous blog was titled “QuietMorningsWithHim.com” and obviously, my new one titled “JeremyNortonBlog.com.” Please note, the goal is definitely not to abandon posts in relation to Biblical concept! Instead, I wanted an outlet to allow more freedom to write about life in general.
My reason for this move started with a book by Jon Acuff, titled “Quitter“. You may be familiar with his blog titled “Stuff Christian’s Like“. In his recent book Quitter, Jon outlines “closing the gap between your day job & your dream job“. Personally, I almost feel that the subtitle does not do the book justice. The book was so much more than discussion about one’s job. For me, it was empowering on multiple levels.
Perhaps, it was because though I know Quitter was written for the secular market, there is multiple levels of Biblical principle hidden within its pages. Mr. Acuff has placed a lot of concrete wisdom into this book and has impacted my life as a whole, instead of just my “job”.
As I think further, it is possible that I feel so moved because I am already somewhat in my “dream job”. I love writing, teaching and generally motivating people. As a Youth Pastor, I am able to do what I love each and every day. This being said, after I have to admit that I feel more focused now.
Quitter has taught me a number of principles that will make me a better Youth Pastor, as well as focus me further into what my “dream” is. And perhaps “dream” is not the best word or the only word to describe this concept. I think I would prefer to title it my calling or my passion. I guess it doesn’t matter what you call it, Jon Acuff has written something to help people journey towards what they truly want to do, live, experience, etc.
So, if you’re feeling like you’ve just been going through the motions for far to long, pick up a copy of Quitter by Jon Acuff.
