Quality Southern Rock Delivered by “Thieves and Liars”

Artist Highlight – January 2012

Yesterday, I wrote about Interlinc media resources in a post titled “Christian Media Resources“.

Often, when I receive a box of goods from Interlinc, I get a few video resources. In their last box, I received their latest Music Video Loop, which features the latest artist in the Christian music scene. On the Music Video Loop, there’s always a “play all‘ option, which will cycle all the music videos through in one shot.

If I’m going to give an honest opinion of current Christian music; most of the time, within their given genres, a lot of the artists seem to be putting out similar stuff. Hip-Hop will always sound different from the rock genre, but each of the artists can usually be put into a fairly tidy genre box.

That being said, every once in a while, within the video loop there’s one that’s vastly different and stands out amongst the others. Of course, almost everyone in the room instantly turns to watch the video

Fast-forward to last week’s youth night.

As always, I had our latest Music Video Loop playing on the front screen while we spend some time hanging out with students. All of a sudden, this genre phenomenon happened with a band called Thieves & Liars.

I couldn’t say that their genre has never been heard before. Yet, I could say that this teen generation hasn’t heard of a current artist within this genre before. Thieves & Liars’ albums titled “American Rock ‘N’ Roll” and “When Dreams Become Reality” offer just that!

These fellas were rockin’ long hair, moustaches, jean jackets and vintage guitars; matched with an unapologetic Southern hard rock style. Clearly, they pushed aside the popular to embrace a genre from rock and roll’s past. And without a doubt, they do deliver!

Their video, “Slavin’ Away” blew me away with a sound and energy that couldn’t stop my head from bobbing. I’ll add that even our local metalhead Keith agreed that they are a unique sound. Furthermore, because of that, they’re worth seeing live. Now, I give you the latest in Southern Rock, “Slavin’ Away” by Thieves & Liars.
