The Benefits of Seeking Dependence Instead of Independence – Small Group Study

Many of us try to live life without depending on other people.

No matter how hard life gets, something inside of us convinces us that we shouldn’t ask for help. We try to walk through deep valleys of trial and pain, relying solely on our own strength. In reality, it’s just not possible.

The Bible teaches us that we were created to live in community with each other, but most importantly in communion with God. When we get over our own pride and insecurity, we can find relief within our heavenly Father and the people He has placed into our lives.

Check out the following video, “Strong Enough” by Matthew West. It’s a great song and a great presentation regarding the dependence on God and each other that we need to accept. Feel free to follow along with the lyrics provided.

VIDEO: “Strong Enough” by Matthew West

You must You must think I’m strong,
To give me what I’m going through.
Well, forgive me Forgive me if I’m wrong,
But this looks like more than I can do on my own.

I know I’m not strong enough,
To be everything that I’m supposed to be.
I give up I’m not strong enough,
Hands of mercy won’t you cover me.
Lord right now I’m asking you to be Strong enough,
Strong enough For the both of us.

Well, maybe, Maybe that’s the point,
To reach the point of giving up.
Cause when I’m finally, Finally at rock bottom,
Well, that’s when I start looking up and reaching out.
Cause I’m broken Down to nothing,
But I’m still holding on to the one thing.
You are God and you are strong When I am weak.

I can do all things Through Christ who gives me strength,
And I don’t have to be Strong enough Strong enough.
I can do all things Through Christ who gives me strength,
And I don’t have to be Strong enough Strong enough.

I know I’m not strong enough,
to be Everything that I’m supposed to be.
I give up I’m not strong enough,
Hands of mercy won’t you cover me.
Lord right now I’m asking you to be Strong enough,
Strong enough, Strong enough.
