What Are the Cultural Outcomes of Erasing Hell?

The rise in universalism is concerning.

There’s always been an element of it, but it never hit popularity in the evangelical world until recently, brought about by a book by pastor and author, Rob Bell titled “Love Wins“. The book seemed to suggest that Jesus’ love would win out in the end, and we would receive one last chance to receive Christ after death when we see HIm.

I thought it was nonsense based on what Scripture states. And I wasn’t alone. The book seemed ridiculous to most pastors and Bible scholars. And yet, some young pastors and fringe theologians clung to the idea. It was an ideal that was growing and being discussed at great length.

How would this impact our culture?

How would this impact our ability to evangelize if everyone wins in the end? How do we spread the Gospel if the theological truths around sin and help, God’s wrath and judgement are dismissed as false? How do we share our faith with a culture that believes they’re saved no matter what they choose to believe in?

Thankfully, one pastor responded to the masses. Francis Chan released a counter book to Love Wins titled, “Erasing Hell“. And not long after Chan’s book was released, I found a fantastic interview that I had to share, explaining some of the deeper reasons Francis felt compelled to write the book.

You have to watch this interview!

The following is a video clip of an open-house discussion with authors Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle, as they worked through tackling this topic of hell. There’s great Biblical insight and relevant cultural content for any Believer, or seeker tackling the topics of sin and hell, God’s wrath and judgement.
