UNDERSTANDING THE FATHER’S DESIRE FOR US TO RUN BACK TO HIM

I had one of those weeks.

I have been feeling a few more ups and downs than usual. I am reminded of a time back in Alaska when I was struggling with similar thoughts and feelings.

At the time, I was feeling very distant from the Lord. Metaphorically, I was standing motionless. For whatever reason, I was resisting the run back to the Father on a couple of issues in my life.

As I sat in the coffee shop, a friend came and sat with me. He commented on my general disposition as of late and told me that I seemed overwhelmed. He then continued by suggesting that I should go spend some extended time alone with God.

I immediately realized that I needed to take his advice.

Before he left, he prayed for me and within his prayer, he quoted some of Psalm 27. After his prayer, I packed up and headed for a quiet room in our church, to be alone with the Father. For obvious reasons, I decided to read over Psalm 27.  In this Psalm, I found peace within these words:

Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.” (Ps. 27:7)

Today, I am sure that some of you are in that place; where your sin or doubt has left you frozen, unable to take the necessary steps back to the Lord. I encourage you to get up and get along with your heavenly Father. If you don’t know where to turn, Psalm 27 (and 28) are great places to start.

Our Heavenly Father waits with open arms, with all offenses struck from the record, reconciliation, and restoration already obtained.
