Father Abraham had many sons. And many sons had Father Abraham. I am one of them. And so are you. So let’s all praise the Lord.

Last week, I began a post-series on Biblical leadership titled, “Leaders Are Everywhere”. Each week throughout this month, we’re going to explore a different Biblical leader. Each with different circumstances, personality traits, leadership styles and challenges.

We started with Moses last week and this week, as you’ve likely guessed, we’ll be exploring the life of Abraham.

Hebrews 11: Abraham’s Snapshot

When we study a Biblical character, it’s important to lay a foundation with some background and overview. It’s nice to get a snapshot of their life and leadership. Hebrews 11 gives us that snapshot of Abraham.

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.” (Heb. 11:8-12)

An excellent foundation to start from. But I want to highlight one last overview note.

Spoiler Alert: Abram Is Abraham

There are two names that appear back-to-back in Genesis: Abram and Abraham. Depending on your level of Biblical understanding or even the amount of time you’ve spent reading the book of Genesis, you may not have known that these are the same guy.

No judgement if you didn’t know. I just want to make sure that throughout this post-series, you’re fully in the loop on what’s going on.

To explain a bit further…

When we’re reading Scripture prior to Genesis 17, the name Abram will appear. In Genesis 17, God issues His covenant and changes Abram’s name to Abraham. God also changes his wife’s name from Sarai to Sarah.

So before Genesis 17, we have Abram and Sarai. After Genesis 17, we have Abraham and Sarah. Same people.
