Do we really accept, desire and practice the Biblical concept of confession?
Not so much confession to God, which is vital to our faith. But in particular, the confession one to another, stated in James, chapter five: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
Personally, I have experienced the benefit and accountability that comes from sharing my personal struggles with other men. If we do not have someone who is challenging us to confess on a regular basis, we are greatly missing out on a key piece of our relationship with other believers.
In turn, we are then not experiencing the fullness of what God has intended for us.
Check out this video journal by Christian artists, Tenth Avenue North. They suggest that “healing begins” with confession of sin. I think they’re on to something. Maybe even something Biblical?
If you have more time, I suggest you also check out these “Healing Begins” music videos created by Tenth Avenue North. I am sure they will be a further encouragement to you this morning.
What benefits have you experienced though the confession of sin to others?
