WHY YOU SHOULD POST OLD PHOTOS

I uploaded a lot of photos this week!

These photos were over a decade old. You know, the abandoned years. We all have them. Or at least we Gen-Xers and Boomers have them! Those were the years that we used digital cameras but didn’t really know what to do with the photos.

  • Do we print them?
  • Put them in an album?
  • How many do we print?
  • Where do I put this album?
  • Will anyone look at them?
  • Is this really worth it?

Or we do nothing.

Let’s be honest, most of them have sat on our hard drives for years! This week, I decided it was time to share them. I uploaded a bunch of photos to Facebook.

Facebook allows the user to post dates to a single photo or to an entire album. Even if I couldn’t remember the actual date, Facebook allows for a month or even just a year to be attached, placing the photos into the appropriate Timeline section.

When this has been accomplished, a message will appear in your News Feed reading, “USER added XX photos from DAY, MONTH, YEAR to the album TITLE.” Facebook also adds a collage of photos from that particular album, underneath the post.

It was really fun!

Though it’s important to note that if one does not read the post but simply clicks on the pictures, they may think that the photos are current. Hence, one of our friends momentarily thinking Nicole was expecting again! (Oops!) Be aware that some people may be slightly confused.

I have to admit after I started this little project, I soon discovered that those years were awesome! I had a great time re-living so many forgotten moments. It was a great trip down memory lane. From the Facebook likes, a lot of our friends and family have enjoyed the trip as well.

To my friends who were annoyed by the mass photo posts, forgive me.

What about you?

I think we all are convinced that social media is here to stay. Maybe it’s time for you to pull out that old hard drive? Or maybe start scanning some of your favourite physical album photos?

I promise that you (and your friends and family) will enjoy the trip down memory lane!
