WHY JESUS IS OUR BEST EXAMPLE OF HOW TO SHOW OUTREACH – PART 1

Introduction:

Though perhaps obvious, Jesus Christ is our best example on how to show that outreach. His life on earth shows us how acts of extending services and meeting needs, can cut into the coldest, hardest heart; opening it to receive His Gospel message.

Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”” (Matt. 9:35-38)

There are two key things that I want to quickly highlight out of this passage. (1) Jesus deeply cares for the needs of the people. (2) Jesus wants our help in attending to the needs of the people. This call for workers is a call to reach out to the people; outreach.

This passage briefly mentions Jesus’ teaching, healing and caring for the people. However, to bring the point home; we would have to look at some specifics on exactly what Jesus achieved while He “traveled through all the towns and villages of that area.

Check back in tomorrow and we’ll be doing just that!

  1. Interesting the solution of Jesus to the problems of the people, was for the people of God to pray that He would send forth laborers. Not a solution that you and I would normailly think viable.

    1. Yes, I would have loved a greater explanation of what Jesus was actually feeling in that passage. Was He overwhelmed? Was He tired from a full day (maybe week) of doing ministry? Could He have snapped His fingers and righted all that He was witnessing? Of course! However, the passage seams to indicate far more going on in His mind, prior speaking of the Harvest.

      Thanks for your thoughts Bill!
