Step Into Your Calling with Courage
Have you ever felt completely unprepared for something you knew you had to do anyway? It’s that moment when your doubts shout louder than your faith, and yet, you know God is calling you to move forward. That’s exactly where Joshua stood when God told him to lead Israel into the Promised Land (Joshua 1:1-9).
Joshua was picked because he was willing to move when God said move. God’s words to him are powerful and worth coming back to, any time God is calling us to step out in faith:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, ESV).
You Don’t Step Into Your Calling Alone
When Joshua took over after Moses, God told him that, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses” (Joshua 1:3, ESV). This means that God had already gone ahead of him. Joshua just needed to walk it out in faith.
That’s good news for us! God works the same in our lives today. We can trust that God’s promises pave the way before we ever take the first step. His call is never dependent on our ability, but upon His faithfulness.
Strength and Courage Are Choices You Make
Three times in Joshua 1, God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous. He repeats it because fear is a significant factor in stepping into a unique calling. God knows exactly how we wrestle with fear and anxiety when the future’s unknown. So, we’re called to be courageous, choosing to trust God in the middle of uncertainty.
When I look back at the times in my life when I’ve had to step up, I was afraid. I had to lean on God for strength. And every single time, He showed up. Whether it was leading through a hard season at church or taking a leap of faith with my family, He was with me.
Step Into Your Calling Today
Just as God assured Joshua He’d be with him, that same promise holds for you right now. Whatever God is calling you to do, whether it’s leading, serving, or taking a bold step of faith, you’re not doing it alone.
The Lord your God is with you. He’s already prepared the way, and now He’s asking you to step into your calling and trust Him with what comes next.
