“Worship” is a verb that can be defined as “to render religious reverence and homage to.” Another definition is “to feel an adoring reverence or regard for (any person or thing).” As a Christian, what qualifies as worship?
Level 3:16 recently put out this video titled “Tell ‘Em”. They could have left out the verbal banter at the beginning of the video, but they were trying to set the stage for the content of this song, which is amazing! The conversational style of this artist’s rapping really pulled me in and clearly points to Jesus.
There’s a deeper calling. Our music leaders are being led by the Spirit. They aren’t simply picking song that fit. They’re being led to bring songs that will carry the mind of the congregation toward the Biblical principle of that particular gathering.
Once a youth trip begins, it’s fascinating to see how quickly the students expect a youth pastor to act like their parents, but that’s not the goal in this environment. It’s important for students to have some safe, healthy independence during youth trips. For the most part, they were free to decide, and I always enjoy seeing their faces when this freedom first sets in.
A single song can convict. In my late teens, I heard a song that resonated deep within me. This song would become my life’s most influential praise and worship song. This song continues to draw me near to God whenever I hear it, and even more so, whenever I sing it.

Back when I was a youth pastor, I remember one youth night when we had a bonfire. We were sitting around, talking about music. Specifically, we were discussing the fact that no matter what genre of music receives current popularity, there always seems to be a vein of pop rock that drifts through and remains in culture.
When life feels heavy, remember this truth from Romans 8: God is for us, and nothing can separate us from His love.
