Dream Bigger with God

Embracing God’s Vision for Your Life

Every new year brings that same question: “What’s next?” I ask it too, both in a practical sense, but also in prayerful ways. What’s next in God’s plan for my life? What dreams or desires might He want to grow in me this year? My desire is to dream bigger with God as I look forward to the new year.

We all have goals and resolutions, but unless they’re aligned with God’s purpose, they’ll never satisfy. Romans 12:1–3 gives us a road-map for discovering His vision, which is far greater than anything we could plan ourselves (Romans 12:1–3, ESV).

Aligning Our Dreams with God’s Purpose

The Apostle Paul writes:

“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship… be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (Romans 12:1–2, ESV)

This passage gives us three spiritual practices that help us dream bigger with God, and to live with open hands and surrendered hearts.

Step 1: Be Available

God created you on purpose, for a purpose.

When I choose to offer my life to God, I’m saying, “I’m available.” That’s not easy. It means removing distractions, letting go of self-driven plans, and creating space for the Holy Spirit to lead.

Maybe that means trimming your schedule. Or spending quiet mornings in prayer instead of scrolling through your phone. The goal isn’t to do more—it’s to be present before God so He can lead you into something greater.

Step 2: Be Teachable

God created you for significance, not survival.

Paul tells us not to conform to this world but to be transformed through the renewal of our minds. Transformation begins when we silence the noise and listen for God’s voice.

That might mean shutting off the constant flow of media or carving out time each day for prayer, worship, or reading Scripture. When I slow down and let God speak, He often stirs dreams I never would’ve imagined on my own.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, ESV)

Step 3: Be Vulnerable

God created you for connection, not confinement.

We’re not meant to chase big dreams alone. True growth happens in community—within the body of Christ. That’s where encouragement, correction, and accountability keep us grounded in grace and purpose.

Join a small group, serve on a ministry team, or invite someone to pray with you about your next step. God works through His people to shape our perspective and strengthen our faith.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17, ESV)

Step into God’s Vision

As this new year unfolds, don’t settle for smaller dreams or safer prayers. Be available, be teachable, and be vulnerable. That’s how we dream bigger with God, trusting that His plan will always lead us to something beautiful.
