Focus on Jesus Leads to Action

Should I wait or take action?

There are seasons where waiting is wise; when prayer and patience are the faithful choice. But there are also moments when Jesus calls us to move right now. When following Him means jumping in with both feet.

Especially when it comes to showing our love and commitment to Him.

Peter’s Leap Toward Jesus

One of my favourite moments in Scripture comes at the end of John’s Gospel. Peter can’t sit still when he realizes Jesus is near. As soon as John says, “It is the Lord!” Peter throws on his outer garment, jumps into the water, and swims to shore (John 21:7).

The boat would have made it there just fine. But Peter wanted to see Jesus as soon as possible. His action revealed his devotion, and it set the tone for the kind of leader he would become for the church.

Playing It Safe

So many times, I play it safe. Maybe you do too. We know what needs to happen, but we hesitate.

“It’ll be uncomfortable. We might get hurt. It’s not how we usually do things.”

But let’s be honest: if you’ve been stuck for this long, will waiting another week or another year really make a difference?

Time to Act

Take some time to read through John 21. Maybe today is your moment to do something Peter-like. Maybe God’s been nudging you in a certain direction, and you’ve been holding back.

Spend some quiet time in prayer, then step forward. Grab your coat and jump. Run. Act. Speak. Do. Whatever He’s calling you to, choose to act. Then start moving.
