Reading Jude Together
A Small Book with a Big Message
Jude’s short. One chapter. Easy to skip when you’re flipping through the New Testament. But every time I read it, I’m struck by how much truth it packs into such a small space. Maybe it’s often overlooked because it’s small or because it sits right before Revelation? For me, reading the book of Jude has always been fruitful, and I’m going to share why.
It’s packed with doctrine that anchors our faith and warns against drifting from it. It also has some touchpoints to mysteries outside our canonical books of the Bible. And on a personal note, it means even more to me since my wife and I named our oldest son Jude. So yes, I like this little book a lot!
Reading the Book of Jude for Encouragement
If you’ve never read Jude before, take ten minutes right now, and read the whole letter. It’ll surprise you. My favourite section comes near the end, where Jude calls believers to stand strong in faith and extend mercy to others.
“But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire…” — Jude 1:20–23
Those few verses remind me that the Christian life isn’t passive. We’re called to pray, to persevere, and to love, even when the journey’s hard. Jude gives us some warnings, but also gives hope to stand on.
Reading the Book of Jude as Worship
The book ends with one of the most beautiful doxologies in all of Scripture:
“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” — Jude 1:24–25
That’s the kind of truth that steadies us when life feels uncertain. He (Jesus) is able to keep us from falling. He’s faithful to finish what He’s started. How true is that!
