Seeking Justice Starts with Prayer

Why Seeking Justice Starts with Prayer

Seeking justice is an admirable trait we often associate with great leaders. When someone has been cheated, hurt, or wronged, true leaders stand alongside them and fight for what’s right. However, truly seeking justice starts with prayer, and that’s our focus today.

Stating “Seeking justice starts with prayer” isn’t just a sentiment. It should be a core understanding for those who proclaim to be Christians.

In Proverbs 29:26 we read: “Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one gets justice” (ESV).

This Scripture reminds us: even if we escalate things to the highest authority, God is still the ultimate judge. He orchestrates every outcome, even when we can’t comprehend His plan.

What Prayer Does in the Pursuit of Justice

We’re not called to be silent and let injustice run wild. Instead, as Christians, our first response should be prayer. Prayer invites God’s wisdom, guidance, and timing before we take action. When God wants to shift someone’s heart (be it a boss, manager, or politician), He can, without our prompting.

Take a half hour out of your day today, and work through this process:

  1. Take some time and read through the entire chapter of Proverbs 29.
  2. Pray through each verse, considering the injustices you’re facing lately.
  3. Write down each injustice, bringing them to the Lord.
  4. Ask Him to reveal His perspective and His will.

Next Steps: Pray Before You Act

This week, before taking any step to address wrongs, pause and pray. Let God shape your response. Trust His timing and His sovereignty. God may lead you to stand up, speak out, or stay silent, but it should always flow from prayer.
