A few weeks ago, we held our quarterly youth-led service. It’s a great time for our students who have committed to our ministry team program, to use those practical services to the body within the context of Sunday morning worship.
In the book of James, we read about a small part of our body that has great power! This small part of our body has the strength to bring about achievement or destruction. What part do you think it is?
As promised, here’s Francis Chan’s second session of Surrender SIN. Keep your eye out in the next couple of weeks as we finish our Surrender series with Surrender SELF.
Unfortunately, each of us carries a sin nature that we were born with, so we will all carry a certain amount of debris on us. Throughout our lives, we do have choices as to how much debris we pick up from the places we go and the people we associate with.
No matter how hard life gets, something inside of us convinces us that we shouldn’t ask for help. We try to walk through deep valleys of trial and pain, relying solely on our own strength. In reality, it’s just not possible.
In our last High School lesson we explored “Surrender Status” from Francis Chan’s Surrender series. As part of that theme, I decided to take a couple of weeks to view the movie, “To Save A Life” in two parts with the students.
Last week we introduced the concept of Surrendering our Status. Francis Chan encouraged us to give up our constant desire for popularity in the world’s eyes, in order to truly follow Christ. Today, we’re going to dive deeper into that concept.
Our goal tonight is to challenge the concept that our labels are found on the outside. It doesn’t matter what label is on the outside. It’s what’s on the inside that really matters!
This past Sunday felt like a wash. It actually started half way through last week, when I had to cancel our 4-day Youth Snow Camp due to a lack of interest. I hate cancelling events! But multi-day events like Snow Camp cost money. Without a certain amount of students, it just wasn’t going to fly.
As we walk through life, there are going to be people who disappoint us and let us down. Though we realize that no one’s perfect, some people may even go out of their way to make our life a struggle. Maybe you know a few people like that.
Over the past couple of weeks in our Surrender series, we’ve looked at what it would mean to “Surrender Stuff”. Specifically, we’ve explored the tough truth that many of us are “Possessed” by our possessions. This week, Francis Chan is going to move us into the theme of “Surrender Status”.
