When Life Leaves You Motionless
When Life Feels Like Work Instead of Living
Jesus removes our burdens when life feels like more work than experience. I often find myself juggling so many roles, wearing hat after hat. Every position has its own pressures and expectations.
These roles rarely fit together neatly. There’s always overlap. One task demands attention while another crisis erupts. The pressure to prioritize becomes overwhelming, especially when everything seems equally urgent.
Temptation Adds More Weight
Now add temptation and sin to the mix. These don’t belong in our daily responsibilities, but they often creep in and distract us. Especially during seasons of stress and increased workload. Resisting temptation can feel like a win. But falling into sin feels like defeat.
Sin steals more than time; it robs us of joy and drive. We feel ashamed, useless, and paralyzed. If the pressures of life weren’t already heavy, sin pushes us past the breaking point.
The Yoke Becomes Unbearable
It’s like a yoke that’s too heavy to bear.
yoke, noun: “A wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart that they are to pull.” — Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford University Press
We all have a yoke, often our day-to-day grind. Usually we can keep moving, even under pressure. But sin adds a weight that we weren’t built to carry. These burdens of living in this fallen world, then, become overwhelming.
We find ourselves motionless, heads hung low under the crushing strain.
Jesus Invites Us to Rest
Thankfully, Jesus removes our burdens. He invites us to trade our yoke for His:
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:29–30 (ESV)
When sin makes your yoke unbearable, Jesus offers a better way. He doesn’t ignore your burdens. He lifts them off of you. Eternally, He took them on the cross, but in this moment, He forgives you.
You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone
Jesus removes our burdens because He loves us. We are children of God, and no loving Father would ignore the pain of His child. If we ask, He will help.
We weren’t created to carry it all. We were created to walk with Him. Even if (or when) sin has slipped in, and increased the weight, He’s still watching and waiting. He’s ready to take that burden when we submit and surrender, and seek Him
